I used the perfectionist one in an interview yesterday. Worked like a charm.
It's true though, I tend to overthink things.
I've got an interview at Online Support tomorrow morning. The job entails people phoning about iPod, or iPhone related problems, and then having to help them solve their problems through a series of questions and recommendations.
Anyway, I've always been taught to think up about three personal flaws that are flaws, but would not affect you doing your job. For example, lets pretend you're a janitor, a 'good' flaw would be saying, "I've been working on it, but some people think I'm not the best at talking to people." or if you wanted to look like a ballsy fool, you might say, "I'm a perfectionist. I'm too dedicated to my work."
I'm sure you get my point.
I'm having trouble thinking up such flaws for a job relating to talking to people on a phone and helping them out. Three would be helpful.

It's true though, I tend to overthink things.
You could say..
"I work well independently, but it is difficult for me to work in a group setting."
And then give a reason why..
All I can think of for now.. I'll try to think up some more.
I would use that, but they are a big team down there. They split up into teams, with a team leader, and try to do better jobs then everyone else and then the company gives awards to the team that does the best. A lot of comradery in the work place.
I wish I had money. Lots of money.
I'd never have a job, but would spend my time going to interviews.
When the interviewer asked me what my biggest weakness is, I'd take the taser out of the inside pocket of my suit and give them a good zapping.

I use the perfectionist one, and also note that I sometimes work too hard(both true to an extent but really whos going to believe that without knowing you)
interviews are a funny, I always have a good time and I love shooting questions about the job and their specific management style back at the interviewer and watching them get nervous.
I've had four interviews in my life. I've gotten three of the four jobs I've applied for. I try to make them fun, but I'm nervous for this one because I actually want the job---a lot. I want to move out for next semester, and this job guarantee's twenty hours a week, but during the summer it guarantee's forty hours a week. It's all sitting, so I won't be exhausted after work, and I'm getting paid like $9.50/Hour. It's better then minimum wage here. The people seem really nice, and if I can get a ton of hours in during the summer, I can move out and enjoy freedom!
I've always used the perfectionist one, works like a charm, it's 3/3.
My last job was at a computer store (might be heading back there under the new owners, fingers crossed), and my job to start would've been answering phones and doing basic tech stuff (IE: Cleaning out the insides of computers, checking for physical damage, and running diagnostics before handing it off to another tech.) So, I said that I have a tendency to overdo things, and that I'd probably end up doing a bit of the next tech's work for him if I noticed what needed done. Got the job on the spot.
If you can live off 9.50 and hour by yourself i praise you...i am making a little bit more than that and i cant move out yet
One thing I generally use in interviews as a 'flaw' is to say "well, I'm working on it, getting better at it but I have some nervousness when public speaking in front of peers in a formal situation"
Something like that which probably isn't too significant for most jobs especially when you say 'i'm working on it and getting better' has worked pretty well for me and my friend getting jobs.
damn, I'd starve and die off 9.50$ an hour.
how do you do that?
say you're impatient. Means you try to get things done right away. There's nothing bad about it.
Christ man, I am making over $40/hour and I can barely afford to live on my own
I've heard in the past from interviewers that the perfectionist flaw is a bad one to use as a lot of them see it as a way of dodging the question. I have found in the last few interviews I've done (which have resulted in jobs), I'm just honest about a flaw. Obviously don't use something that would completely sink you, but I think interviewers appreciate something that at least appears honest.
u have aids and open cuts all over your body...plus you like to give hugs every 5 minutes
If you smoke cigarettes, I've heard of people use that... "I smoke... I'd love nothing more to improve on that."
I like the one about the public speaking too. Along those lines you could also use: "I tend to side on the introverted side of the equation. I'd like to be more interactive in group situations."
Good luck tomorrow!
"I have no flaws."
I pretty much got the job. They never asked for flaws... Weird.
Agreed, and a certain unnamed school recently applauded me for actually being to the point instead of beating around the bush.
Hiring managers and search teams are decent at weeding out the garbage. If that one answer gets you through, either your job isnt' that important or there is some redeemable quality about the job you do and your level of competency.
In other words when everyone says their major flaw is that they are a perfectionist you tend to learn that it's a form letter response.
but... I really am a perfectionist.
I used the perfectionist deal on my last interview, I guess it worked since I'm still there.
